Schoolhouse Editions
mission

Charles Lane Press was created in 2008 by photographer and book lover Richard Renaldi and his partner Seth Boyd. They founded their new publishing venture on the belief that gorgeously printed books are the ultimate expression of a photographer's vision, as well as beautiful objects in their own right.

Our emphasis on content

Charles Lane Press books will showcase important, new bodies of work by contemporary fine art photographers. Projects are selected for publication based on the strength, maturity and originality of the artist's visual language. We believe that skillful editing is a crucial, yet often overlooked element in preparing a photographer's vision for publication. To that end, all of our books are produced in collaboration with at least one additional artist to help edit, shape and sequence each body of work. The creative synergy between artists working together will be a highly original aspect of every Charles Lane Press book.

Our passion for the printed image

Our designers, color separators, production supervisors and printers are all important members of our team. Charles Lane Press books draw on the skills of the world's most knowledgeable printing and design professionals. This means that we do not print in places where it is merely cost-effective to do so. Our printers are skilled craftsmen who are uniquely capable of approaching - and sometimes surpassing - the tonal range and color fidelity of original photographic prints.

In the end

Our goal is to make photography books that provide nothing short of an incomparable pride of ownership. At Charles Lane Press we view books as essential objects, akin to works of art themselves.
